Embodied Baptism uses project based learning to help youth say “Yes” to their baptism through the baptismal covenant. With guidance from their parents/guardians and their mentors, youth learn the significance of their baptism, and how to live in the way God calls us. Each year, youth choose a project based on their covenant year, and their own gifts and passions. You can read about the projects GDLC students are working on this year, and even get involved if you feel called to do so!

Be sure to join us for the Embodied Baptism Celebration Dinner on Sunday, May 4 at 6 p.m., where we will enjoy a delicious dinner, hear the students’ Presentations of Learning and Reflection, and celebrate all the incredible work and faith growth they have experienced this year!

  • Kam

Kam’s project combines her covenant year theme, “Care for others and the world God made,” her learning about water scarcity, and her love for swimming with a fundraiser for Water to Thrive. You can learn more here.

  • Easton

Easton’s covenant year is “Proclaim Christ in word and deed.” Easton saw there are food insecurities in his community, and in the world. His project not only was to research how the need for food was being met in his community and overseas, but also to help meet that need.

  • Wyatt

Wyatt’s project combines his covenant year theme of “Proclaim Christ in word and deed,” and his love for soccer. He is raising funds to purchase soccer equipment to send to Gloria Dei’s sister congregation in Samé, Tanzania.
You can learn more about Wyatt’s project, Soccer for Samé, here.
You can donate to Soccer for Samé project here.

  • Lydia

Lydia’s project combines her love of volunteering and her covenant year theme of “Work for justice and peace in all the world.” Lydia has been volunteering with both Girls on the Run and the Iowa City Animal Shelter. Lydia has mostly wrapped up her project, but if you would like, you can donate directly to the IC Animal Shelter.
